So, sit back and relax, because this is a journey into the city of luxury, innovation, and non-stop thrills.

The Dubai Fountain

Let’s kick this adventure off at number 7 with the amazing Dubai Fountain show. Picture this – you’re right in the middle of buzzing Downtown Dubai, surrounded by crowds super psyched to see the big event.

As the sun starts setting, you can feel the excitement building all around you. Then bam! Right on cue, the Dubai Fountain bursts to life with an epic water and light show. It’s like watching a mind-blowing dance, but instead of dancers, you’ve got water jets and dazzling lights putting on the performance.

And get this – the music is a mashup of famous hit tunes that’ll have you involuntarily tapping your feet. These enormous water streams are majestically shooting up and forming crazy intricate designs that sparkle bright under the night sky. Every movement is perfectly timed to the beat of the music. It’s a full-on visual sensation that just mesmerizes you completely.

You’ll be glued to the spectacle, your senses going into overload from just how awesome and beautiful the whole thing is. A true moment of magic that’ll stick with you long after the show ends, my friend. The Dubai Fountain at number 7 is an absolute must-see!

Ski Dubai

Alright, let’s take this adventure to number 6 with something totally unexpected – an indoor ski resort right here in the burning hot desert! I’m talking about the crazy Ski Dubai – the highest indoor ski slope in the world.

Get ready for your mind to be blown. You stroll into this massive freezing facility, and bam! You’re greeted by straight-up snowy mountains and ski slopes as if you teleported to a winter wonderland.

Can you picture it? You, suited up in full ski gear, making your way down powdery runs while restaurants, shops, and trees line the edges. Talk about an out-of-this-world experience! You’ll be hurdling down those slopes, feeling like a pro skier or snowboarder.

But here’s the kicker – you look outside, and it’s a blazing 40 degrees in downtown Dubai. An actual winter paradise coexisting with the blistering desert heat just steps away. Your brain will hardly be able to process that contrast.

Don’t worry about missing out on the full ski experience either. They’ve got real chairlifts, instructors to teach you, bars to grab a hot drink – the whole nine yards. You can genuinely pretend you’re on an Alpine skiing holiday.

Whether you’re a slopes veteran or a total newbie, clicking into those skis or strapping into that board at Ski Dubai is an exciting thrill like nowhere else. An indoor winter wonderland in the Dubai summer? Now that’s one for the memory books!

The Historic Old Dubai & Souk

Dubai is mostly known for its futuristic skyline, with towering skyscrapers and state-of-the-art architecture. This is showcasing the city’s ambition and wealth, but there’s another side if Dubai: The cultural heritage found in Old Dubai – and number 5 on our list.

Taking a short abra ride across Dubai Creek is a great introduction to Old Dubai, offering a unique glimpse into the city’s heritage. These traditional wooden boats provide a peaceful moment in the middle of the buzz of the city, with stunning views of the contrasts between the historic and modern skyline.

Stepping off the abra, and abracadabra, you’re thrown into the lively alleys of the souks – as they call their markets here. The Spice Souk overwhelms the senses with the aroma of exotic spices, while the Gold Souk dazzles with sparkling jewellery. Walking through these markets is an immersive cultural experience, showcasing Dubai’s rich trade traditions. The hustle, the bargaining, and the display of goods showcases the life in the heart of Old Dubai. This is a journey through the layers of history and tradition that define Dubai. And who says Dubai is all glitz and glamour and without soul. You’ll find it here at the historic Old Dubai & souk.

The Dubai Mall

Get ready to step into the ultimate shopping experience in the most visited building in the world: The Dubai Mall. It’s not just any ordinary shopping mall – it’s a colossal maze of shops and attractions that will have you buzzing with excitement from the moment you step inside. With over 1,200 stores with a wide range of brands and luxury labels, it’s like stepping into a shopper’s paradise where every corner holds a new discovery (and maybe a temptation or two for your wallet).

But The Dubai Mall is more than just a haven for shopaholics – it’s a whole adventure waiting to happen. Take a stroll through the spellbinding Dubai Aquarium, where you can admire the underwater wonders, or head over to the VR Park for an immersive gaming experience that will leave you on the edge of your seat. And when hunger strikes (because let’s face it, all that shopping works up an appetite), you’ll be spoilt for choice with a huge selection of dining options. From gourmet restaurants serving up enticing dishes to grab-and-go eateries offering quick bites, there’s something to satisfy every craving.

Just a friendly piece of advice: make sure to wear your most comfortable shoes because you’re about to embark on a shopping marathon like no other. So, grab your bags and get ready to shop ’til you drop at The Dubai Mall. And then after that go outside and see the Dubai Fountain show, we spoke about at number 7.

The Palm Jumeirah

Number 3 is the iconic Palm Jumeirah, a true marvel of engineering that stands as a testament to human innovation and ambition. This man-made wonder is more than just an island; it’s a living personification of imagination brought to life. It cost 12 billion Dollars and took six years to build.

When you first see its palm tree-shaped silhouette from a bird’s eye view (or maybe a parashoot), you’re immediately struck by the boldness of the vision.

Stepping onto its pristine shores, you’re greeted by the sensation of soft white sand caressing your feet, while the gentle embrace of the Arabian sun wraps you in warmth.

As you approach the very tip of the Palm, you literally cannot miss Atlantis The Palm Resort. This massive luxury beachfront hotel is a destination unto itself. The pink coloured royal towers soar into the sky looking like an underwater paradise rising from the sea.

Whether you’re spoiling yourself in the lavish luxury of its exclusive resorts, appreciating the delicate flavours of world-class dining, or simply enjoying in the awe-inspiring views of the Dubai skyline, The Palm offers a playground for the elite, the renowned, and the dreamers alike. It’s a place where fantasy seamlessly melts with reality, where every moment feels like an enticing glimpse into a world where the boundaries of possibility are endlessly pushed and redefined.

Desert Safari

For number two, get ready for an awesome desert adventure as you leave the city behind and head out to the beautiful Arabian Desert for an exciting safari. You’ll feel the thrill of “dune bashing” as your driver expertly zooms the 4×4 over the huge sandy hills – it’s so fast and wild that people will be screaming with excitement. When I did it, half of the group was screaming and the other half laughing. And our driver was only using one hand – because he had his phone in the other and speaking to his wife… “I’m at work honey… I’ll be home soon.”

And for an extra dose of adventure, you can even go sand boarding and camel riding through the desert landscape.

As the sun starts to set, you’ll gather around a cozy bonfire as the aromas of a traditional Bedouin dinner fill the air. You’ll get to enjoy flavorful Arabian cuisine like grilled meats and aromatic rice dishes, all while taking in rhythmic traditional music and mesmerizing belly dancing moves. You can even get on the dance floor and join the belly dancer – if you feel like it. Sitting under that starry sky surrounded by new friends and desert beauty, you’ll be so grateful for this unforgettable experience.

Burj Khalifa

Topping our list is … the world’s tallest building. Prepare to be amazed when you stand at the base of the Burj Khalifa, an enormous skyscraper that towers over the city. As you step into the sleek elevator and start going up, each floor you pass makes you more excited. You might even feel your ears popping a bit from the height. Then, ding. The doors open and you’re greeted with an incredible view. You can see the whole city below, all lit up and twinkling, and even the desert stretching out in the distance.

It’s like being in a movie – everything looks so small from up here, but you feel really important, like you’re on top of the world. And even though it’s a bit scary, there’s something quit special about seeing the world from such a high place. So, take your time and soak it all in because standing here, you feel like anything is possible. It’s a moment you’ll always remember, a memory that will stick with you long after you’ve come back down to earth.

Do you agree with the list?

And with that, we conclude yet another Vagabond Shorts. But hold on just a moment. I’m itching to hear from all of you adventurous souls out there.
